Gunsite Scout POLYMER STOCK HELP!!! Ruger Pistols Ruger Double Action Revolvers Ruger Single Action Revolvers Ruger Rimfires Ruger Shotguns. August 26th, , Hey guys I'm new to the forum! I have a Ruger GSR with the laminate wood stock but I really want one of the new polymer stocks that will take more abuse and I can use in foul weather.

I've contacted ruger directly and they will only ship me one as a replacement if I provide my serial number "obviously mine correlates to a wooden stock" So unless I find someone who has a polymer model to get one for me I don't know how to get one.

Looking for some help and this seems like the place to go lemme know what you guys think. Ruger needs the serial number to match up the polymer stock to your action.

New From Ruger: Gunsite Scout Rifle in / - The Truth About Guns

Ruger makes changes to the guns from year to year. Ruger needs your serial number to make sure you are getting the right stock if they have a synthetic stock available. Inclement weather will not harm your laminate wood stock. Deep sea diving with your Ruger may harm the stock. But just hunting in foul weather will not harm your laminate stock. Looking at the Ruger site the synthetic stock will only fit the stainless steel models.

Interesting as they sell non stainless models in that stock as well. I know the lamin ate is tough but it's also heavy. With my 50mm objective scope it would be nice to shed some needed weight. FYI I'd be willing to buy one off anyone willing to give one up. Ruger actually told you such?

I thought that Rossi was the only one so anal about things like that. Rossi had to kiss the hind end of Ca's rump just to get their Circuit Judge into the state and part of the deal was that in no way would they ever sell stocks, grips, or any part for that matter to anyone.

Nope it's factory installation only and if your gun had a synthetic stock, then great you can get a synthetic stock, but wood and you'd better get to liking wood. Rossi use to sell any part to any one and I often would take a short barrelled lever and add a large loop lever or visa versa just to get the model that I wanted. No such luck now. I'm sorry to hear that Ruger has joined them in a rather stupid notion that once designed by Ruger, no one had better think of altering it.

From time to time I read comments that the serial numbers and the models are all tied into paperwork filed with the BATF and changes to a serial number making it deviate from the original configuration requires some kind of amended form be sent to the BATF, or something along those lines, and therefore Ruger doesn't want to alter their products from the original manufactured configuration.

I honestly don't know if this is true or not but Ruger seems pretty much set in not altering their products away from factory specs. For instance, the accepted word is you can't send in a non-convertible SA revolver to have the convertible cylinder fitted, something Ruger would do years ago.

You can't send in a GP and have it re-chambered from 38 Special to Magnum. And yet last year I sent in a Super Blackhawk that needed a new barrel and I was told it had been shipped with a 7. Perhaps barrel length doesn't matter? So maybe it's just Ruger stubbornness over the idea of anyone altering the perfection of the gun as they manufactured it.

Or maybe there is actually a valid paperwork requirement involved that is too burdensome for Ruger to deal with. I would think the laminate stock is durable enough but it is heavier. August 27th, , If Hogue would just get going and make one of their Overmoulded stocks for the GSR we would be fine. Who knows why Ruger wants to get goofy over a stock. Mossberg is getting goofy too. A friend needed a firing pin for a Mossberg pump.

Mossberg told him they would send the firing pin to a gunsmith or he could send the bolt to Mossberg. But either way they would not send the firing pin to his house.

This is why we need 3rd party vendors and part makers, the gun companies get too worried about legal stuff. Ruger makes the polymer stock. I think the polymer stock is not offered at this time because they cant make them fast enough to fill all the rifle orders.

They sell complete firearms and sell parts to support them. When the sales drop below the production rate for the polymer GSR I think the stocks will be listed in the parts catalog. August 28th, , Originally Posted by Doom. Originally Posted by ChooseWisely.

One day they will offer it up as a spare part available over the counter. In the mean time, they want you to buy their new gun to get the poly stock. Buy another GSR and swap stocks. Then your older GSR has a new, bithcin' poly stock. Sand it down a taste and give it a custom transparent stain color. Your new GSR now has a one-off "vintage custom laminate stock. Nice thought and I'm sure others have considered it but the GSR is not an inexpensive rifle and not a lot of us especially in these times have the cash to drop on a new rifle just to get the stock.

Plus, rifle accessories and customization are big part of the business anyhow. I mean, one of the first questions I normally hear people ask about a new gun is, "can I get stuff for it?
