Stock market bar fort collins
I really can't believe this place hasn't gotten better reviews. Coming from the west coast where a fat tire is 4 dollars a pint, it was amazing to pay 1.
We had bomb chips and salsa and the crab artichoke dip. I had some sort of turkey sandwich as well. Everything was so awesome and our servers were so generous and attentive. Upon leaving my three friends and I wanted to frame our receipt.
It was so inexpensive for the quality of food and service we had received. I felt like we robbed the place. I am seriously dumbfounded by all these negative reviews. This is one of the best bars I have EVER been to. If you ever need an city to appreciate you Sports Exchange - come to Portland!!! I think our population will understand your concept.
This place is now called Wall Street. Different name same old horrible service! I had been to Sports eXchange a few times when I first moved to CO. The atmosphere was pretty good and I thought the stock market concept was pretty cool. The bar itself wasnt all that bad, neither was the food, its a bar people! All in all not a bad place to hang out pre college kid rush. The there's the 20 something bartender Both times I went to this place the same bartender was working or should I say flirting with the male patrons and ignoring the paying customers even though the place was dead.
Few weeks ago I noticed the bar had a new name and I reluctantly agreed to give it another shot. Wouldnt you know it, same bartender practicing the same poor customer service.
After being ignored for 10 minutes one of the guys we met up with ask her to please take our order. She did, with an attitude and proceeded to go back to talking to her friends. When she brought us our drinks she recognized one of our friends, he is in real estate here in town.
And proceeded to tell us all about how she's is starting a real estate company or something. I had too many positive reviews, so I figured I needed to review sports exchange. This place is like being at an over-crowded high school house party. It all started with a bull market at The Sports eXchange. People were talking about this new concept - some were skeptical, most were intrigued.
A year later, the bar is in a bear market headed towards a crash and a major depression. The Sports eXchange replaced Linden's and the very short-lived Hamilton's in May, When you ask Fort Collins' old timers about that spot at Linden Street, many will tell you that it's cursed.
Nothing seems to succeed there. After my experiences at The Sports eXchange, I feel like they are on the same path towards the bottom as all of the previous bars and restaurants. An unusual gimmick piqued our interest - a pricing structure that climbed and fell like the NASDAQ stock market.
The Fat Tire prices rise and the rest drop. The more people that buy Fat Tire, the more expensive it becomes and the other drinks become cheaper. Every four minutes the market crashes and the prices adjust to ridiculously cheap. People are supposed to cheer The Sports eXchange had potential for being something interesting in Old Town, but it's lost on weekend binge nights. Can a concept survive if it only works two out of seven nights a week? Like the old timers in the city say, that place is cursed with a long string of failed restaurants and bars.
I wouldn't be surprised if The Sports eXchange crashed and investors jumped ship. I gave this place a second chance since my first experience was the soft opening night. I brought some friends with me that hadn't been to the bar the first time and that I didn't tell about my review on Yelp.
This way I could get some input from people that weren't tainted. The music was just as bad the second time as the first. The singer was very monotoned in all of the lyrics. He reminded me of Ben Stein's character in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Like my first review this place failed. The service was sub par. I went to the bar to order two drinks, a jack and coke and a draft beer. Thanks to the handy ticker board with a clock on there, I know that it took the bartender seven minutes to make those two drinks once I ordered.
Of course since it took the bartender that long to ring in my order I had no idea what the price would actually be. I did get to watch the market crash, which was moderately cool, although it wasn't a big surprise as it took the manager or at least the guy that was messing with the computer several tries to get the program to work correctly. I did learn one valuable thing about the market crashes, if you enter the code in the computer the market will crash and drink prices will lower.
With all of the issues stated above, plus the skanky cellulite laded waitstaff, the surprisingly few number of televisions for a bar called the "Sports Exchange" I hold true to my first review and give this place 2 stars. I understand the concept. I am not sure why, with the amazing technology that is tongue in cheek bars are using these days, like projected menus, that they can't do a better job of actually providing information.
At least SE provides prices, i will give them that. I found it to be a complete pain in my ass to stand and watch the list scroll by. It was just too much to find the one thing I wanted to catch the price on, never mind the other things I may want to price compare.
I am glad I wasn't there on a really crowded night, the bartender already seemed ready to chuck something at my head. I was looking forward to Sports eXchange opening up and while I'm glad to see people are initially supporting it, and I think there are some great things about it, the experience itself was like farting in a hot tub - it jumps all over the place!
Let's start with the theme, which isactually a pretty good gimmick -- the price of many bar drinks and some appetizers are based on "market rates".
People order stuff, demand is up, some price goes up. TVs that look like CNBC show When people order other stuff, the price goes down. On occasion, they create a four-minute long happy hour they call a stock market crash, where all the prices drop by about half. It's actually a fun theme, but they need to take it a little farther. Putting the prices in small letters on small 42 inch screens mounted 10 feet in the air makes it pretty much impossible to see anything from across the room.
So a lot of the theme gets lost. A trip to Ultimate Electronics is in order for these guys! The atmosphere, CNBC screens aside, is a mix. Stage, dark floor, pool tables. Then the dining tables are covered with black tablecloths and actually look nice. So, what is it? College bar or nice restaurant?
Let's check out the menu The menu is pretty good, and the food was great. Instead of fries, my chicken sandwich came with potato chips with melted bleu cheese! But here's the problem. The clientele on weekends looks like college kids. It's good food, but who are they targetting it to? Bartenders were causal and friendly. Waitresses were dressed in sexy the girls with us said slutty but I thought they were kinda hot outfits - high heeled boots, short black skirts, tight white shirt, but the waitresses that were there made it look good and they did a good job, too!
So, what do you have? All of this served by waitresses that, while hot, have nothing to do with a stock exchange theme, which is underserved by the tiny TVs. It seems like the stock market gimmick can hurt you if you're looking for a specific drink. If you're not picky, the market can be your friend. To start off, this used to be my favorite place, but back then there were tables with black table cloths, nice napkins and candles in the middle.
Also softer music played by local musicians s, most of the bar staff and waiters knew my name. The time I am talking about was over a year ago, closer to when this place opened, before the CSU students came back. Once the end of August rolled around and the students began to take over the downtown scene, this place went down hill. Now if you go by there are often cops breaking up fights, drinks spilled all over the floor.
I have stopped by several times since it turned into the typical college place. You can still get a cheap drink but you have to fight your way to the bar and will probably get several drinks spilled on you in the process. You know it is bad when you ask for a pineapple-vodka and get a glass of pineapple juice no vodka and then the bartender when asks gets crabby because I didnt say that I wanted a vodka - pineapple, since when do you have to be so specific?!?
Not like I asked for a difficult drink. I will seldom be found in this bar and when I do I will try and get the group of people I am with to leave as soon as possible. Very disappointed that this place went from semi-classy and fun to trashy and gross.
If you don't mind the crowds, this place is really fun! I think they could design a way cooler sign to post the "market" on, but I love the concept and it's fun to watch what you're drinking drop in price.
One would thing with a name like the Sports Exchange that they would have the MLB package Stopped in to catch the Red Sox game and was disappointed Have only been there on a Saturday night but it was a little too "clubby" for me. The crowd is all barely 21 and the bouncers were dicks. The drinks on special are hella cheap. That's right I just said hella. NEver been here for food, but I went for Halloween and other nights dancing.
Definitely the place to go for dancing and some great music, especially if you are from an area like Philly, as am I. I've been here a few times, it is a cool idea but it just gets so crowded you can't do anything. Basically the same as everyone else.
Small dance floor that gets covered in beer and is so sticky that you cant walk, horrendous location of Mens bathroom in relation to dance floor, need more TV's if they are trying to have the name "sports" in front of exchange. The price fluctuation is cool but could have been done so much better if they stuck to one common theme.
I went to Sports eXchange on a busy Friday night. I was unable to get drinks as the stock market crashed because it was so busy. It might be fun to go on a night that is less busy and you can actually get paid attention to. I think they are trying to create an environment for college students and middle aged adults.
It does not mix well. I have heard that they have good live music. I think the trick is to go to this place at a less busy time to enjoy the entertainment and actually get cheap drinks! I can't say anything as far as the bar atmosphere goes we went at 6pm on a Tuesday, so we had the entire place to ourselves but the food was delicious and the servers were really great.
Since literally no one else was there, none of the stock market stuff was happening, but the one waitress there was very friendly and attentive and the cook even came out to make sure we were satisfied. And we were very satisfied - the buffalo chicken wrap was just the right amount of spicy, and the shrimp po' boy was really good. Usually you expect one or two fried shrimp, but the sandwich was overloaded, shrimp falling out everywhere.
The fries and onion rings were well seasoned and the perfect amount of crispy, and we got the chimi-cheesecake for dessert. This is a cheesecake, fried, then rolled in cinnamon and sugar.
Ask for a side of raspberry puree. This place is a joke. I went their for lunch and it was my worst eating experience ever. The so called waiter was clueless and had a IQ of a infant. I had to go inside to ask for my bill and complain about the worst service ever and the manager over herd that which did not sit well with the waiter. He came out to the patio not to apologize but to argue with me, then he called me a comedian then threatened me and said I will see you wile pointing at me.
